Here in South Asia
by Andrea in South Asia, Updates
After many, many hours of traveling to a time zone that is almost completely opposite of ours, we’re here! With nearly all of our bags! (“Expecting” the last one tonight or tomorrow.) And adjusting to jet lag pretty well. We managed to stay awake all day and actually carry on coherent conversation for the majority of the day. Most of the day, we walked around the city with our great hosts and shopped for local clothes and just took in our surroundings. Photos to come later.
We enjoyed experiencing the city today and are still processing, of course. No one’s lying when they say there are cows in the middle or side of the road, traffic is rule-challenged, and idols can be found everywhere. But there is beauty here.
I would say the weirdest thing so far is sleeping with the windows open (to keep the air flowing) at night and listening to the sounds of the city. You know, the usual: car horns honking and honking, dogs barking, cows mooing. And of course, the rooster crowing to signal the construction crews to begin their work. Every city of 5 million people or more has roosters, right?
Our day ended with yummy local cuisine, sweet lime soda, finger bowls and sweet friends. We are thankful for good health and stamina and for the one true God who is not limited by a people of idols in all their many forms.

Traveling Light
by Andrea in Photos, South Asia, Updates
This juice is NOT for drinking, but it IS for travel to South Asia.
I like to call this my planning pile. If you look closely, you’ll find some budget sketching, check book balancing, guide books, etc.
This would be our combined to-be-packed-in-the-carryon pile.
Bags full of goodies for the friends we will see. AND another little carryon pile. The chocolate candy isn’t really there. It’s a figment of your imagination.
Two semi-packed suitcases.
Changing purses to a more travel-savvy purse (zipper included).
And the FINAL pile of stuff that needs to be packed somewhere or that needs to be considered for packing.
